Chiropractor Dr. Joshua Akin, D.C., ART, MUA
Dr. Josh Akin, founder and Clinic Director of Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine, is a board certified Chiropractor with certifications in Active Release Techniques (ART) and Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA), Graston and Acupuncture. He specializes in treating professional athletes, collegiate athletes, high school athletes, and active individuals that have developed injuries through both competition and everyday activities. Dr. Akin provides an all encompassing approach to body mechanics and the function of the body, while focusing on understanding the true origin of the patient’s problem, rather than only treating the symptomatic issues. For each patient, Dr. Akin develops a personalized plan that includes in-office treatment, stretching and a specific exercise program; a plan that provides patients with an effective solution for long-term preventive care.
Dr. Sebby is a board certified Chiropractic Physician and is full-body certified in Active Release Technique (ART). Dr. Sebby treats his patients with a holistic approach by incorporating chiropractic care, ART and functional rehabilitation to diagnose and treat the underlying cause of an injury. He provides the highest standard care to every patient, as well as he takes the time to educate and include his patients as partners in their therapy.
Chiropractor Dr. Sunil Pullukat, D.C., ART
Dr. Pullukat is a board certified Chiropractic Physician with certifications in Active Release Technique (ART) and Acupuncture. He studied under Dr. Joseph Kottoor, treating professional athletes and celebrities. Over the years, Dr. Pullukat has developed a knowledge-base in using functional rehabilitation methods with soft-tissue techniques, chiropractic manipulations, and nutrition to assist patients in their healing process. Dr. Pullukat’s approach is to assess for faulty movement patterns through functional screening and correct it by specific exercise and specialized manual therapy techniques. He is also well versed in botanical and nutritional medicine. Dr. Pullukat focuses on working with his patients to provide pain management solutions for preventative health and an improved quality of life.
Chiropractor Dr. Missy Holas, D.C., M.S., A.T.C.
Dr. Missy Holas is a board certified chiropractor, received a masters of Sports Injury Management and is a certified athletic trainer. She has certifications in Graston, dry needling, Greenman manual therapy, dry/fire cupping, and trigger point therapy.
Dr. Holas has extensive expertise in treating NHL/AHL/ECHL hockey players. She is the team chiropractor for the Chicago Wolves, works for the Florida Panthers and travels/treats many NHL players throughout the year. Before transferring to Chicago in February 2012, Dr. Holas worked with the Atlanta Thashers, now the Winnipeg Jets, for 13 years, 10 years as the team chiropractor. Since 2010, she has been the Chiropractor, Manual Therapist and Athletic Trainer for the USA Hockey Women’s National (Olympic) team.
Sam Gao, Licensed Massage Therapist
Sam Gao, a Licensed Massage Therapist, prides himself on his ability to care and listen to the needs of others. He is well versed in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and ethics. Sam believes in tailoring a massage towards the individual needs of each client by using multiple modalities such as TuiNa, Active Release Technique (ART) and deep tissue work to get the best results possible. Sam graduated from Soma Clinical Massage school in Chicago in 2008. Over the years he has treated many athletes, including professional athletes. A few common problems that Sam works on with his clients are headaches, muscle tension, carpal tunnel, sports injuries, back pain, sciatica , and fibromyalgia. Sam believes in continuing education and feels that his ongoing studies and practical work makes him a better massage therapist. This allows him to explore new methods and techniques in order to provide his clients the best experience possible.
Erin Bretts, Licensed Massage Therapist
Erin Bretts, a Licensed Massage Therapist, graduated from the core and Master’s Program at the Soma Institute in 2010 and completed a cadaver lab focusing on but not limited to lower body injuries at UIC in 2011. Her interest in the abilities of the human body began at a young age as she pushed herself to become an elite gymnast. She is compassionate and understanding to the aches and pains caused from sports related injuries. Erin uses her understanding of the body to tailor a therapeutic massage that targets the root of the problem. She does this by using a variety of techniques such as trigger point release, myofascial release, active release, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching.
Erin has been working with clients from professional athletes to weekend warriors; from soccer moms to expectant mothers. She has treated a wide variety of conditions, but commonly upper cervical issues causing numbness and tingling in the arm or arms, low back pain, IT Band contracture, and plantar fasciitis.
Patricia Kaufman, Director of Operations
Patricia is responsible for directing the operations for all the offices of Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine, including business/practice development, finance, operations, medical systems, HR, and marketing.
Patricia Kaufman has extensive experience in business and marketing management with expertise in strategy development and implementation of processes. As a business executive, she managed a 50 million dollar software product line, implemented procurement and product ordering ecommerce system, and overhauled the branding and marketing of a 200 million dollar software company. Patricia received a masters of business administration and bachelors of science in engineering from Marquette University.
Nancy Heymann, Office Manager
Nancy Heymann is the office manager at Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Medicine. Nancy manages the daily operations of the center, including patient scheduling and insurance coordination. She has been working with Dr. Akin since 2009.
Nancy is a former triathlete who now focuses on bike racing. She competes on the road and track, as well as cyclocross and mountain biking. Nancy has two children and enjoys spending time with them camping, hiking, skiing and climbing.
