Rehabilitation Specialist Paul Matthews
Paul Matthews specializes in Rolfing, a hands on therapy dedicated to realigning the bodies soft tissue structures which include muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments, and fascia. Paul uses a series of balance and stability based diagnostic tests to determine where a patient has muscle weakness, imbalance, and/or joint instability. Once determined, Paul can effectively address the immediate issues of misalignments or scar tissue adhesions while reinforcing the stabilizing muscles involved with proper biomechanical movement therapy and functional rehabilitation.
Paul received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Sociology. He worked two years in medical sales traveling throughout the Midwest. In 2006, Paul had spine surgery to correct two severely herniated discs that were compressing his sciatic nerve. Post surgically, Paul moved to Chicago and took a position as a personal trainer specializing in corrective exercise and functional rehabilitation at Holmes Place, a high-end health club located in downtown Chicago. When Paul was not working as a trainer, he dedicated the majority of his time to rehabbing his back with various treatment methods. Most of the treatments did little or nothing to rehab Paul’s back and after nearly 2 years of disappointing results, he still could not function at a 100%. Paul was determined to find a treatment that would work. In 2009, Paul learned about the success rate of Rolfing for rehabilitation. After researching Rolfing, Paul decided that Rolfing could drastically improve his recovery, which in fact it did. The Rolfing treatments changed and ultimately saved Paul’s life. Due to Paul’s own success with Rolfing, he was determined to use Rolfing to help others avoid, as well as successfully recover from their own injuries.
Paul received his Rolfing certification from Rolf Institute of Structural Integration located in Boulder Colorado and has since helped thousands of patients recover from injuries.
